Thousand Oaks, CA (May 9) – BTO Sports, a leader in the latest motocross gear, parts and accessories, is proud to announce a team recap of the 2013 Monster Energy/AMA Supercross season.

SEASON RECAP:

The BTO Sports-KTM team came in to the 2013 Supercross season prepared and ready to take on the competition. Matt Goerke charged out of the gate all season long and racing his way into the top ten, riding to his season best 7th place at the Oakland SX. While Matt’s season came to an early end due to a wrist injury sustained before the Seattle SX, he would end the Supercross season 12th place in points.

Andrew Short joined the BTO Sports-KTM team midway through the season and took the team to another level. He acclimated to the new bike and continued to solidify himself as one of the best riders on the circuit. The KTM Factory Services Engines would consistently keep him finishing inside the top ten and Short would reach 6th place a total of four times in 2013. That proves he is at the top of his game and is always in the mix. With his strong rides, Short finished Supercross 7th overall in points.

The BTO Sports-KTM Team is now focused on the 2013 AMA Outdoor Series and with Michael Byrne returning to the team to join Andrew Short at the opening round in Hangtown, CA, May 18. With Matt Goerke returning to the team later in the season, the BTO Sports-KTM team will be strong contenders every weekend!

EVENT RECAP:

Andrew Short took to the Las Vegas track in the afternoon to lay down the 12th fastest time in qualifying. As the gate dropped on his heat race, Short would use the power of his FMF exhaust system to get a great start. Her would run up front to finish 5th. In the main event, Short took advantage of his KTM Factory Services Engine and ripped another great start. He would go for it all race long and finished inside the top ten in 9th. With that, Short would end the Supercross season 7th in points.

With Supercross finished, the attention of the BTO Sports – KTM race team is now focused on the Outdoor National season opener at Hangtown, CA in a few weeks. Andrew Short will be joined by teammate Michael Byrne, who returns to racing after recovering from his injury last year. Matt Goerke will not be racing the opening round, as he is still recovering from his wrist injury and is due back later in the Outdoor season.

“Andrew rode a good race” said team manager Forrest Butler. “I’m proud of everyone on the team, as they worked hard all Supercross season. We are now focused on the Outdoors and with the return of Michael Byrne to the roster, we should have a great season in the Outdoors!’”

There is a lot to a race team than just the riders. Pulpmx’s CL Moser had an opportunity to hang out with the BTO Sports-KTM team to go behind the scenes and see how well oiled the team is. From the truck driver, to the owners, everyone does their part to make the BTO Sports-KTM team one of the top teams in the pit area. Check out the cool interviews with a few of the team members that make up the BTO Sports-KTM race team.

Moser: I had the pleasure of getting to hang out with Andrew Short and the BTO Sports – KTM Racing Team at the Seattle Supercross, it’s an experience that I don’t take for granted and is hard to put into words. I have a tendency to take things a little bit too far so I tried my best to be respectful of the job everyone on the team was doing while I was making waffles, roaming around the semi, drooling on Shorty’s bike and explaining the marketing potential of a shake weight. This Short profile isn’t about how much fun I had at the Seattle Supercross you can read about that later this week in Moservations.

I wanted to take the opportunity I had to talk with some of the team members and ask what it takes to run a race team. I had a lot of questions about what it takes to get Andrew Short to the race each and every week. We’ll look at a couple of team members each day through-out this week to see what happens behind the big BTO Sports tent, I asked the hard hitting questions or at least the questions I wanted answers too. Another big thanks to Andrew Short and the entire BTO Sports Team for tolerating me this weekend, I had a ton of fun and even learned some things.

Seattle, WA (Apr.21) – BTO Sports, a leader in the latest motocross gear, parts and accessories, has announced the results of the BTO Sports – KTM team at round 15 of the Monster Energy Supercross series at Centurylink Field in Seattle, WA. With BTO Sports – KTM rider Matt Goerke out due to an injury, Andrew Short was the lone team rider to attack the Seattle track Saturday night.

EVENT RECAP:

Not letting the weather bother him, Andrew Short felt good all day and qualified 7th out of the practice sessions. Short would get a great start in his heat race and would run strong until a hard crash in the whoops, forcing him in to the LCQ. Short made quick work of the competition as he would take the win in the LCQ from the far outside gate. In the main, the combination of the KTM Factory Services engine and Pirelli Scorpion MX tires allowed Short to get a good jump out of the gate to run inside the top ten at the end of the first lap. He would climb his way up to seventh until a few mistakes on the rutted track dropped him back to 9th where he would finish. Going in to Salt Lake City, Short is 7th in points.

“I didn’t have my best race of the season, I felt terrible out there but on the bright side of things, I’m healthy and I was inside the top ten. From here forward I’m looking forward to doing some outdoor testing to get ready for Hangtown” said Short after the race.

Thousand Oaks, CA (Apr.18) – Team BTO Sports – KTM rider Matt Goerke suffered a wrist injury in a practice crash this past Tuesday, April 16th, and will miss the remainder of the 2013 SX tour. Goerke did not sustain any bone fractures, but did suffer a dislocation that required surgery on Tuesday evening. Surgery was performed and went well, and Matt is home already and resting up.

“This is a major blow and bummer to Matt and the team. Matt has had a stellar year thus far, and we will change our focus now to healing the injury as quickly as possible and getting Matt back out early on for the Outdoor Nationals”.

Goerke will unfortunately miss the start of the 2013 MX Nationals, but looks to be back in action by round five at Budds Creek, MD. The team will not be hiring a fill in rider for Goerke, as team member Michael Byrne will be returning to the line-up at Hangtown alongside teammate Andrew Short.
